Reported Sightings

We arrived on a Friday the 13th. But after a sleepless night and seeing the figure of a woman in a maid's outfit appear at the foot of my bed, my husband and I asked to switch rooms. We later learned that that particular room is where an employee died in a gas explosion many decades ago. Staff was friendly and accommodated our room change request efficiently and without laughing at our concerns. We did not experience further paranormal activity, although the elevators are kind of creepy.

I used to work there in my 20s, The freight elevator would go off on its own. The staff was terrified to work alone, and would often ask me to turn lights off for them, because I don't have a fear of the dark. I'm used to it.

I worked the front desk here a decade ago. I will swear up and down that that place is haunted. Especially the elevator. Several times, during the night shift, I have spotted a dark figure getting on or getting off a completely empty elevator. The figure will seem real as the nose on my face one moment, then suddenly it's gone. So many guests reported this also. I was always super creeped out when I had to ride up and down that thing.

[During our stay, my wife and I were in the basement bar, which is purportedly haunted by a man in a long coat.]

[At one point], I was sitting with my back towards the wall, facing the bar. All of a sudden, I felt someone looking at me from where the entrance was. I looked over but I could not see anyone there. The room to the right of me was empty just like the corridor.

I was getting goose pimples and rubbed my arm. [My wife] asked me what the matter was. I told her what I had been feeling. She was surprised at my answer. There really was no-one at the door. We finished an otherwise uneventful dinner and decided to head back upstairs. We wanted to be up early to watch the [Oktoberfest] parade.

[Later that night, while reading in bed, I heard a loud thump in the room next to mine.] Weird! Sometime around three in the morning I fell asleep. I had the strangest dream. Something bad. Very bad, and very weird. I woke up to the vibration of my cell’s alarm.

[My wife] was already up. I was feeling groggy with so little sleep. I told her I hadn’t been able to sleep until about 3 am. She looked at me strangely and said, “well, I was having these horrible nightmares and woke up around 3. Then I fell asleep again, and I had more nightmares till I woke up. I don’t normally have nightmares. I was surprised." I told her about my disturbing dreams too.

sThe Walper Hotel is haunted for sure, especially the old freight elevator. I was bringing some dishes back down the pub one night and I felt something shove me from behind and I dropped a whole tray of room service.

A coworker of mine used to be employed there before the place a was renovated. She had her diet coke fly off the bar in front of her. She tells the story in such a way that you can tell it still disturbs her.

I’m so excited to share my story, I could jump out of my skin! It was quite the experience to say the least.

My husband and I traveled to Canada in November of 2018 for business purposes. While on our travels we ended up in Kitchener at the Walper Hotel. Now, my husband swears to this day that he had no idea of the history of the hotel. We generally seek out haunted places to stay. But this one, he claims he didn’t know it was haunted.

Once inside the place I kinda knew there would be some history. We get checked in to our room on the 4th floor and start roaming around. We quickly learned the Walper Hotel was one of the most haunted buildings in Canada.

So we popped out our phones and played around on a few “ghost” apps. We decide to go to bed at midnight or a little after.

At some point in the middle of the night, I awake, but I can’t move, speak, or scream. I tried to reach for my husband, but couldn’t move my arm. I tried to scream because I’m locked in my body, but can’t move...no screams, just muffled sounds of me screaming internally. I don’t know how, but I fell back asleep.

When I woke up the next morning, I told my husband that something had happened to me last night and we needed to talk. I told him what happened to me, his behavior was odd, he looked a little shocked I guess?

Anyway, he hurried out to run a few errands before we had to check out. I decide to take my shower and get ready for the day. Now, this next part is hilarious and personal.

While grooming in the shower a female voice spoke to me, the only way I can explain is, she spoke to me, in my head, behind left ear. She says “why do you shave there?” At first I was caught off guard and thought what a strange thought for me to have.

But then it occurred to me, that wasn’t me, and that wasn’t my voice! Needless to say I was a little shook and slightly amused at her curiosity.

It gets better, so my husband returns to the room, we gather up our things and check out. We didn’t even pull out of the parking lot before he tells me he had the same experience, except he could open his eyes!

I asked him what he saw, he said he didn’t see anything and if I hadn’t shared my story, he would have most likely dismissed the whole event. Important note: my husband, nor myself have ever experienced sleep paralysis before this event or after.

So, yeah, we drove all the way from North Carolina to Kitchener Canada to be pinned down in a bed and for me to be interrogated about my “grooming” habits. 🤣

The Walper Hotel is absolutely haunted and my advice to the owners would be to embrace their haunted guest, they are there.

Kind regards.

The hotel is definitely haunted. I was a former employee, and one night, I was walking through the third level, when all of a sudden, I heard a loud scream.

It sounded as if it came from the first room at the end to my left. As I got closer, I started to hear a whisper. It said: Turn around and go back!

It was very scary, so I went down the elevator back to the first floor where the entrance was, and I left right away. I will never go back
